Radon is an alpha emitter, why would you need a lead 'coffin'? (unless you were using the synthetic 211Rn??) You can shield alphas with a kleenex. Besides, all the isotopes of astatine are radioactive, too.

This might be the answer to all those who ask: "What good is it?" to any new theory or discovery that they don't understand. A few generations later and we're still finding ways to put it to use. His theories were just so far ahead of the curve that it's taking a while to catch up with him.

On the bright side, that's probably $4 AUD, so that's only about $3.96 USD. Saves you most of a nickel. I would certainly go see it if I was there, but doubt I'd make the trip just for this one.

Jim, the inner core rotates slightly faster than the rest of the planet, and has a slightly different axis (called the fast axis) that basically moves around the North Pole with measurable (over decades) speeds.
